Add-on to the post below. One of my moments of pastoral pride was the development of “the young preacher” of Mazabuka, Oliver Hanzala (011-260-97-752-8728). Discipleship leading to pastoring requires marriage. Zambia is a land that can abuse the bride price (labola). He was faced with the need and desire to get married, but he would have to score a decent job to make it happen. He would scratch his way to a good job on the sugar plantation and then would marry a Zimbabwean girl, Sheila, who has the pastor’s wife’s heart.
It would be a testimony that he would give at our Central African Conference that stays with me to this day. He testified of the church he and Sheila were building in Monze and he would credit some words that I had spoken to the men in a discipleship class in Mazabuka for spurring him to get it all together. The words were the quotes from David to Solomon as he was dying: “Prove yourself to be a man”. They really are powerful words that should bring out the blessing upon society that a real man can bring.
Pastor Hanzala now pastors the largest church in our fellowship that is not originally a missionary church. That is quite an accomplishment!
