New Rules

I substituted today in for the second grade. It was a class I had subbed for last year and the year before and I can say they have grown up a bit in a year, but it is still one of those classes that takes a little extra out of you. I had a good time with them and finished one of the projects of the class in talking and answering questions about a story in which his Dad made his peanut butter and jelly sandwhich wrong by putting the jelly on first. The lesson wanted them to think while reading and to try and project the ending. With some coaching we got to the place of the boy trading his sandwhich, only to discover that they are not allowed to trade food anymore in the cafeteria.

I was flabergasted. I am afraid that freedom will become a word for the dictionary for future generations. Training our children for adulthood, all choices will be made by the state.
