We had our first visiting relative from the United States. I originally thought that many of our relatives would take advantage of our location and come for a visit. I even suspected that church friends would come to visit and minister. But, this has not been the case. The cost of tickets and the fear of the land is more than most can handle. A simple visit to a travel health clinic would convince anyone to make out their will before coming here.
Joan’s brother David did come. I’ll post some pictures later. He was warned not to swim, eat the local food and avoid the dirt. We swam in a swimming hole that we backpacked into overlooking the Luanga valley, one of the remotest areas of Zambia. We hiked down into the valley where only poachers and scouts venture. We caught some fish and ate it and generally had a great time.
The guys in church invited David to play drums for some of their special songs and he had a great time. It was a great adventure as well as a time of spiritual refreshing. I’ll write more tomorrow.
